MMLU: Multidisciplinary multiple choice questions,  provided 5-shot in-context examples.

HumanEval: Python code completion task, zero-shot evaluated for pass@1.

MATH: Middle school and high school mathematics problems written in LaTeX, prompted with a fixed 4-shot prompt.

Grok-1 outperformed ChatGPT-3.5 and Inflection-1 on these benchmarks. Only models trained with more training data and compute resources like GPT-4 exceed it. This shows xAI's rapid success in efficiently training LLMs.

After collecting their dataset, the team hand-graded their model (and Claude-2 and GPT-4) on the 2023 Hungarian national high school finals in mathematics, which was published at the end of May. These benchmarks can be found online. Grok scored a C (59%), Claude-2 a C (55%), and GPT-4 a B (68%). This experiment was a “real-life” test on a dataset the xAI model was never optimised for.
